(Updated) Bernie Moreno Opens New Front on the War On Women

A chyron from a Fox News panel show says that there is no war on women. The panel consists of all men.

Four out of Five Men Agree that there is no War on Women

Today must be Tod Akin day, as wingnuts are making proclamation about the lived experience of women. In the previous post, it was some Michigan Republican questioning if Vice President Kamala Harris —a woman— is, you know, Authentically Black.

Bernie Moreno —the Republican nominee for US Senate from Ohio— is slalom racing down the Legitimate Rape slope pioneered by Missouri’s Tod Akin in what seems now like more innocent times, and what do The Skirts want, anyway?

Moreno manages to make the answer a TwoFer and throws in some ageism as a bonus:

“You know, the left has a lot of single issue voters,” Moreno said. “Sadly, by the way, there’s a lot of suburban women, a lot of suburban women that are like, ‘Listen, abortion is it. If I can’t have an abortion in this country whenever I want, I will vote for anybody else.’ … OK. It’s a little crazy by the way, but — especially for women that are like past 50 — I’m thinking to myself, ‘I don’t think that’s an issue for you.’”

Nice knowing ya, Moreno!(Not really.)

“What Bernie Moreno said shows that he doesn’t respect the 57% of Ohioans who voted to protect our reproductive freedom last year … I think he is hoping to gain the support of some of those voters,” [Katie Paris, the founder of Red, Wine and Blue, a national group of suburban women] said. “But instead, he just called us, Bernie Moreno just called hundreds of thousands of Ohioans crazy. And the last time I checked, that doesn’t go over so well with women.”

The Moreno Campaign sends in a woman to mop up:

“Bernie was clearly making a tongue-in-cheek joke about how Sherrod Brown and members of the left-wing media like to pretend that the only issue that matters to women voters is abortion,” wrote Reagan McCarthy.

That Bernie! Such a card!

“Bernie’s view is that women voters care just as much about the economy, rising prices, crime and our open southern border as male voters do, and it’s disgusting that Democrats and their friends in the left-wing media constantly treat all women as if they’re automatically single issue voters on abortion who don’t have other concerns that they vote on.”

That answer seems like misdirection (or if you prefer, Miss Direction).

Of course women have other concerns that they will vote on, but having control over your own body seems pretty foundational to me; and if Moreno really wants to talk about the economy and women, well, the decision to start a family (or not!) seems pretty economic to me. And that’s before making high quality child care more affordable and accessible. And what about that Child Tax Credit that the Republicans have subsetted? See! Economics!

But, you know, he’s a dude and The Skirts should listen to him. Oh, and bring him a sammich, and remember you’re pretty when you smile.

UPDATE 1:

“You will no longer be thinking about abortion.”

—Adjudicated Rapist Donald Trump

Opens mouth and inserts foot, don’t you love it when Rethugs crash and burn? He’s never going to get elected by dissing women.

A tounge-in-cheek joke you say? Keep up the good work. You’re doing a great job, Bernie Moreno. Here’s a shovel.

  6. would it be against the law to simply remove the tongues of anyone stupid enough to say things that insult or degrade half the population? Just asking…….

JD Vance would agree with that. What possible reason could a woman past birthing age have for caring about health care for anyone else? After all, her only purpose now is taking care of Vance’s, er, other people’s children so he can have more time with wifey.
