It’s not a hunting picture, the dude is actually giving the lions a foot massage, and if I were in his place I’d do whatever the kitties asked, too. My memory maybe fuzzy, but I though cats hated having their paws played with.

The big male lion seems to be enjoying his foot massage. I’m thinking that peaceful means have a few benefits. But it’s certainly not something that I would try. I kinda like having my internal organs where they are now…

Isn’t this Androcles cosplay?

But now we know it wasn’t the removal of the thorn so much as the foot massage after.

Androcles was a slave, he was probably already on the toe rubbing squad.

Playing with my cat’s paws is like popping bubble-wrap to me.

Two things.
If the animal knows and trusts you. You can, after time, show them that it feels good and they might begin to let you do it. Still dangerous, but possible.
That first picture, from my experience, looks like a cat that has been tranquilized and is partially knocked out or out cold. The best odds on giving a big cat a massage, and not being severely chastised by the cat.

From what I read, this guy had been living around the big cats in the park for a while, so they were familiar with him and vice versa. This started when one of the cats had some sort of foot problem that needed an ointment applied. He and the lions discovered that the lions liked it so he kept on. Allegedly some lions now see him coming and get happy, roll over, and present feet.
Ordinarily I’d agree with you, but I kind of like his story.

I can’t speak for the Big Kitties, but I can attest that some housecats like a foot rub and some don’t. It’s your arm and hand to find the ones that do.
