News That Will Drive You To Drink

Happy Hour News

With the news that Cracker Orban is announcing his 2020 Goat Rodeo Entry on BirdChan (Safe) Spaces with Space Karen at his side, it’s time to take a gimlet-eyed look at the Bird Site:

Twitter has long been described, even by its most ardent users, as a hellsite. But under Elon Musk, Twitter has evolved into a platform that is indistinguishable from the wastelands of alternative social-media sites such as Truth Social and Parler. It is now a right-wing social network.

In December, I argued that if we are to judge Musk strictly by his actions as Twitter’s owner, it is accurate to call him a far-right activist. As a public figure, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the right’s culture war against progressivism—which he refers to as “the woke mind virus”—and his $44 billion Twitter purchase can easily be seen as an explicitly political act to advance this specific ideology.

Now the site itself has unquestionably transformed under his leadership into an alternative social-media platform—one that offers a haven to far-right influencers and advances the interests, prejudices, and conspiracy theories of the right wing of American politics.

OK, it’s hard to argue with any of that.

I left Twitter more or less on the night of the mid-term elections late last year, and have not looked back. I cannot begin to tell you what an improvement it has made to my stress levels to not doom scroll any more.

Sure, when someone tips me with a great Tweet, I still use it, but even those are getting fewer and farther between.

I would encourage everyone still there to leave. You don’t need to stay behind enemy lines, and all you are doing is helping Space Karen pay the mortgage for his broken toy that empowers the literal Nazis now swarming the site.

Heh. I just opened gmail, and Mother Jones’s evening email is entitled: “Ron DeSantis’ dreadful camaraderie with Elon Musk.” No article named that, though. They probably read MPS, and knew it’s been done.

Personally speaking, I’m all for this alliance. We know how well Elon has been doing with launches.
