Previewing the event, AP’s David Bauder captures the tightrope she will have to walk: “Collins must give audience members the chance to ask questions while determining when to step in with her own. She’ll weigh how to correct misinformation in a potentially hostile environment: Invited town hall participants are those who expect to vote in a Republican primary.”
We’re told Collins has been steadily prepping since the town hall, which has been in the works for months, was finally confirmed two weeks ago. The anchor has stepped away from her morning-show duties since Friday, spending hours meeting with producers, network CEO CHRIS LICHT and top execs MARK PRESTON and DAVID CHALIAN at a New Hampshire hotel.
TBH, I’m kind of surprised that all the parties are apparently going to go through with this.
The network’s choice to do a live event with Trump, whose farrago of falsehoods can defy live fact-checking, has been met with sharp criticism. “I find it very hard to defend the choice to give him a live platform, no matter how it is dressed up,” MSNBC host CHRISHAYES put it last week.
CNN has pushed back by noting the obvious: Trump’s the Republican frontrunner, a former president and the de facto leader of the Republican Party. But inside the network, there are concerns about how the event — pitched as a forum with Republican voters, not a gloves-off showdown — will come off.
But in all honesty, his base of perverts and mouth-breathers will probably turn it on to hate-watch the network and cheer on their favorite fascist.
Given the stakes, Licht has taken an especially hands-on role preparing for the event. “It’s like a really big moment for the two of them together,” the insider said, adding that “it’s a reset for Chris.”
Licht has made every Homer Simpson designs-a-car move look like a brilliant, well-executed plan. If the ratings are boffo, he gets an extension; if they tank it will be part of his career obituary.
But what about Hair Füror prznintial aspirations?
Asked about Trump’s plans going into the town hall, senior advisor JASON MILLERwrote back, “Tune in! It will be ratings gold!”

I’ve got on a ep of Star Trek DS9 that I don’t think I caught earlier in life. It’s not bad. The characters’s voices are certainly smoother, anyway!

Oh yeah- I’ve enjoyed Poker Face. There’s a few things to quibble about- but on the whole- it’s a fun show. I feel like you and I could watch TV together Pharmakeus. I’ve been watching some old Columbo eps. oh the nostalgia.

CNN is dead to me, it has jumped the shark, screwed the pooch, and gone completely (though denying it) ’round the bend to the dark side. It was apparent when even normally reliable CNN “personalities” began pushing back only mildly and momentarily against GOP fluffers who never should have been given a national news platform in the first place. Then they invite only Trump supporters to this travesty? This isn’t a “Town Hall”, this is a frigging live telecast of a Trump rally, a Fascist Fu*kwit Fest, as well as an “in kind” contribution of free publicity to this awful human being and “presidential candidate”.

Well, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Remember, his cult followers brushed aside the “Trump University” $25M settlement that showed what a fraudster he is. And the “Grab ’em by the kitty tape” that showed, by his own admission, what a sexual predator he is.
They positively gushed at his lawlessness and perversion like they were great fans of a debased Roman emperor, and voted for him. Many will again. They are irredeemable.

I mean honestly- did any of his MAGA followers watch that crap anyway? They aren’t even going to his live events- I doubt anyone is actually listening to him anymore- sure they will back him, give him their $$$ and complain about how he’s being treated in the fake news media- but that doesn’t mean they are actually listening to him.
