The Future of Bathroom Bills?

And here we go again:

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Republican lawmakers in Kentucky on Wednesday swept aside the Democratic governor’s veto of a bill regulating some of the most personal aspects of life for transgender young people — from banning access to gender-affirming health care to restricting the bathrooms they can use.

The votes to override Gov. Andy Beshear’s veto were lopsided in both legislative chambers — where the GOP wields supermajorities — and came on the next-to-last day of this year’s legislative session.

As the meme says, it was never about a bathroom just as it was never about water fountains.

    I wonder if we should change the advertising slogans for all of New England to “Come over here. Fuck those guy.”

    I remember when as a young child I discovered a water fountain at a gas station in Mississippi that said colored on it. I of course took a deep drink of water thinking that at some point the water would take on a color of some kind. I got a few harsh looks from the mostly white patrons, and I wasn’t aware of the racism that was common in our country. When my father found out what I had done, he and us, got back in the car and he took off in a big hurry. Later I learned that I had committed a crime in the State of Mississippi, but like I said I was just a young kid….

    How long before physicians stop treating transgender young people at all (not just for gender-affirming health care), for fear that overzealous prosecutors will see any kind of health care as “gender-affirming” and have them arrested.

    In general the Conservatives have been on a “No health care for you” punishment for anyone or group they go after. At least for a starter punishment.
    And the resulting refrain: “First they came for….and then they came for …”

    Add to that the Conservatives are holding their “Weaponization of Government” as part and parcel of their projection project for just about everything by now. They must have busy days being that they seem to hate so much of the world and life.
