Gov. Elmira Gantry Huckabee-Sanders (R-Satan’s Hallow)

It’s preposterous to think of Gov. Elmira Gantry Huckabee-Sanders as anything other than Exhibit A for NepoBabies, and yet, here she is signing a law that will allow child labor in Satan’s Hallow:

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a measure this week loosening child labor protections in the state.

Under the law, the Youth Hiring Act of 2023, children under 16 do not have to obtain permission from the Division of Labor to get a job. They will no longer need to get an employment certificate, which verified their age, described their work and work schedule, and included written consent from a parent or guardian. Sanders signed the bill into law on Tuesday.

Alexa Henning, Sanders’ communication director, said that the permit requirement had placed an “arbitrary burden on parents” who needed government permission for their child to get a job.

Got that? The burden was on parents, but no one mentioned, you know, how.

Anyway, kids (often undocumented immigrant kids) as young as 13 have been working in slaughterhouses and other dangerous places, but instead of going after the employers for exploiting really vulnerable kids, Elmira Gantry Huckabee-Sanders is making it easier to hire them.

And least we forget, Elmira gave the rebuttal to President Handsome Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address. The symbolism here is pretty overwhelming: this is who the Republicans are and the depths that they will go to to curry favor from their corporate donors. Child Labor!
