It’s Not About Free Speech, It’s About Forced Listening

Elon Musk, pre-hair plugs
(Ya think Putin might notice a weakness to exploit?)

Space Karen has decided that free-speech absolutism means you should be able to say any ol’ racist thing without consequences:

Billionaire Elon Musk has accused the media of being racist against whites and Asians after Scott Adams, the creator of the “Dilbert” comic strip, was dropped by several newspapers for making racist claims about Black people.

Of course, Space Karen does not offer anything as proof.

The larger point here is that any fool can say any foolish thing they want in America —as Dilbert did— and no one can stop them; certainly no one stopped Dilbert. However, the consequences of what you say might not be all Chanel No. 5.

Every media platform has standards that they get to enforce however they want. Actually, every corporation has that right, too; you break the published standards and rules, you suffer the consequences. Last time I checked, corporations were people, my friends, and they get to make their own rules.

Musk’s actions have been applauded by some right-wingers, who have claimed there is a plot by liberals and the media to suppress conservative voices. Claims that anti-racism is part of an “anti-white” agenda have been linked to far right extremism by analysts.

In other words, what the Republicans want is to forced listening as they say racist stuff.

Of course he can’t offer any proof of racism against white people, there isn’t any. But if you consider violence against Asians that is another story. Seems as though we have a long history of treating our Asian citizens as less than human. I’m thinking that there is considerable hostility amongst the Dilbert fans and other racists towards Asians…

There kind of is racism against white people. It mostly happens on a case-by-case basis as opposed to the system wide stuff against POC. It doesn’t really show up as starkly as the police videos we see so often.
White people are more likely to be subjected to classism against poor people, in which they are more-or-less the same color as POC, sort of a whiter shade of lack of money. When hubby ran into trouble he was threatened with involuntary commitment rather than death. It took the hospital front desk people and PA cohort to threaten him with death because they didn’t like his color and age. No threats with clubs or guns, just “why should we waste treatment on this person who I totally know because he’s old and white. Save it for people I like.”

Sorry, it’s off topic but it’s kind of a sore point with me. I keep wanting to go on because it is one of the factors that literally killed my hubby. It’s not a unicorn, just a horse in a world where we all ride bicycles and drive cars.

It’s hard to “like” your story, but I read it and support you in what you say.

Thank you. If we don’t admit that racism (small r racism, I guess) exists, that denial leaves a crack that can be used, and has been used, by those in power to divide us. There’s a quote attributed to LBJ:

If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.

I think it’s one of Trump’s personal ten commandments.

Well… I forgot to “/” my blockquote and WP has been throwing in a return after the first”<” lately, I’ve no idea what the heck.
But you know what I mean. And you might know what LBJ meant, too.

Phony Stark, Apartheid Baby™. I never doubted for a minute all of those accusations from Black employees at Tesla regarding their ill treatment on the job.

Is there still any distinction between “conservative” and “racist”? Maybe Black conservatives would like to comment on Adams’s call for radical segregation. I haven’t heard a word.

I wish. Wouldn’t it be cool if there were a multi-decade plan for liberals/progressives to take over state governments, courts and have a whole media empire to trumpet our causes?

    Yeah, that’d be cool.
