It’s probably not a shock to regular readers and good Scissorheads, but we’ve been right all along: the gun violence is Domestic Tuckerism (and emphasis is mine):
WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of U.S. mass killings linked to extremism over the past decade was at least three times higher than the total from any other 10-year period since the 1970s, according to a report by the Anti-Defamation League.
The report, provided to The Associated Press ahead of its public release Thursday, also found that all extremist killings identified in 2022 were linked to right-wing extremism, with an especially high number linked to white supremacy. They include a racist mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, that left 10 Black shoppers dead and a mass shooting that killed five people at an LGBT nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
“It is not an exaggeration to say that we live in an age of extremist mass killings,” the report from the group’s Center on Extremism says.
The question remains, What will we do about it? And the answer is probably nothing. Republicans know it’s their base (and they are afraid of them, too) and whether we like it or not, we cannot do anything about gun violence without the Republican help.
We don’t have the numbers on our own. Vote the Republicans out. Every last one. That’s all we got.

Isn’t that the basis for Second Amendment worship? It’s in the original Bill of Rights so it’s sacrosanct, just like the parts of the bibble that support what they want. Just ignore the part about shellfish and pork, I’ve got a lobster dinner tonight and I’m planning on bacon and eggs in the morning.

Actually the basis for 2nd Amendment worship is the Cult of the Gun. Period. They like being able to threaten people with death if they get out of line (per, of course, their own definition of what ‘out of line’ means).
Never mind that we have actual originalist documentary evidence from the time that the Second Amendment was all about providing for civilian slave patrols in the slaver states, and for civilian militias to put down slave revolts, because even then slaves outnumbered the slavers in those states; they were TERRIFIED of slave revolts, and had fuck-all to do with ‘defending against gubmint tyranny’.
The vaunted “militias” of the Revolutionary war got their asses kicked repeatedly by the British army; we only started winning when we established the Continental Army.
They love Jefferson’s quote about “Watering the Tree of Liberty” without understanding that is was in the context of putting down a rebellion, and that the rebels were the ones doing the watering part.

You’re right. This cohort includes the Bundys, whose patriarch was filmed for broadcast riding around on his horse holding a U.S. Flag that was just the right size for propaganda in the same hour that he proclaimed that U.S. laws did not apply to him.
