There’s a special place in Hell for Kristi Noem:
South Dakota has joined five other states that have restricted transition-related care for transgender minors in just the past two years.
On Monday, Gov. Kristi Noem, a Republican, signed the “Help Not Harm” bill, which bans health care professionals from providing puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery to minors as treatment for gender dysphoria, which is the distress caused by a sense of conflict between the assigned sex at birth and the person’s gender identity.
Providers who are already treating trans minors with puberty blockers, which temporarily pause puberty, or hormone therapy will be required to taper the minors off the medications by Dec. 31.
You read that right: these kids have to transition back.
I’ve known several kids with precocious puberty, and trust me: an 8-year old girl is not prepared for what is happening (and for whatever reason, precocious puberty is happening much more frequently and most often to girls).
There’s no excuse for getting between doctors and their patients. None. This is just fucking cruelty for the sake of cruelty.
More and more this is the entirety of Republican policy…“Hurting the people they’re supposed to be hurting”
Sadism as State Policy.

As to the precocious puberty, I recall reading in a class that it’s primarily due to the pseudo-estrogens on/in foods and in tap water. It used to be less common, but since the chemicals are everywhere now, so is early puberty more common. Sometimes it’s due to other factors, but the hormone-ish chemicals seemed to be prevalent last time we had the class. FWIW.

Precocious puberty is also strongly correlated with early childhood malnutrition. Kids who didn’t get enough to eat as babies often enter puberty sooner than their peers.
There’s no reason to punish these children to satisfy the prejudices of MAGA politicians.

As a 20+ year intractable pain patient, the current war on prescription opiate medications falls squarely into your final short paragraph. Illicit fentanyl from the black market is, verifiably, responsible for over 80% of opioid OD’s. But try getting the DEA to listen. After all, it’s MUCH easier busting doctor’s, rather than going after cartels.

We need a Federal law prohibiting Politicians from interfering with a certified Doctor’s proscribed care. This can not be allowed.

What do they think doctors are doing, anyway? Do they think they are all like tfg’s docs, there to take down notes to clear them for their next grift and hand them their illicit prescriptions on the way out the door, allegedly?
The same people think everyone should fit into that one mold. When did they be come the Party of Procrustes?
