…The former president, if re-elected, is still committed to expanding the use of the federal death penalty and bringing back banned methods of execution, the sources say. He has even, one of the sources recounts, mused about televising footage of executions, including showing condemned prisoners in the final moments of their lives.

Specifically, Trump has talked about bringing back death by firing squad, by hanging, and, according to two of the sources, possibly even by guillotine. He has also, sources say, discussed group executions. Trump has floated these ideas while discussing planned campaign rhetoric and policy desires, as well as his disdain for President Biden’s approach to crime.

In at least one instance late last year, according to the third source, who has direct knowledge of the matter, Trump privately mused about the possibility of creating a flashy, government-backed video-ad campaign that would accompany a federal revival of these execution methods. In Trump’s vision, these videos would include footage from these new executions, if not from the exact moments of death. “The [former] president believes this would help put the fear of God into violent criminals,” this source says. “He wanted to do some of these [things] when he was in office, but for whatever reasons didn’t have the chance.”

Oh, Trump is just so awful. He certainly does a poor job being a human. I’d just finished writing to the AZ state leg, who are looking at abolishing, and the next email was this story. At the moment, I’d throw a rock at Trump, just because of this.

That ‘whatever reason’ is the one thing that saved us from a much bigger disaster and perhaps a successful coup and it’s that TFG is a fat lazy slob. Yes, he loves to talk about all the ‘wonderful, amazing’ things he’s going to do, but he never actually gets around to doing them. About the only campaign promise of his that got done was the big tax break for billionaires, but TFG was not responsible for that so much as the Rethugs in Congress were.

I’ll allege that it isn’t the fat, lazy slob effect. It’s the, let’s call it, Cohen effect, in that he described the way tfg operates. He talks about how great it would be if something happened, and then his henchmen go and do it. It’s a technique illustrated in that watch-once-not-twice movie, the Devil’s Advocate. (where Pacino points out he never told executives to shred documents, he just pointedly told them how much better their case would be if those documents disappeared)
      ..
Anyway, Cohen testified that this is how tfg does business. Maybe he talks about how great it would be if that person wasn’t in the room any more and eyeballs the second nearest bodyguard. But he doesn’t order any violence, allegedly.

Is there any connection to his wish for more executions and his miserable job of encouraging people to wear masks and get vaccinated?
