Meanwhile in Wyoming…

Guys, in the land of nervous sheep, er, Wyoming Republicans are fighting AGAINST RAISING THE AGE OF CONSENT TO 16.

The Wyoming Republican Party is seeking to kill a bill working its way through the state Legislature proposing to raise the state’s legal marriage age to 16, arguing that putting “arbitrary” limits on child marriage interferes with parental rights and religious liberty.

There’s that pesky religious liberty escape clause, and show me a religion with child brides and I’ll show you a bunch of old creepers preying (not a typo) for kids.

And then the squid ink:

…preventing children under 16 years old from marrying “denies the fundamental purpose of marriage,” robbing teen parents from the ability to remain together under one roof for any children they might bear together—even though nothing in state law would prevent those children from co-parenting.

And again, I cast asparagus (thank you Screwy Louis Gohmert for that) that this bill has anything to do with a teenage Romeo and Juliette situation.

“Since young men and women may be physically capable of begetting and bearing children prior to the age of 16, marriage MUST remain open to them for the sake of those children,” the post read. “The sad fact that physical maturity often does not match emotional and intellectual maturity is an indictment of our modern educational system. That is a problem that should be addressed. But we should not use it as an excuse to instantiate bad law.”

So Wyoming would be fine with teenage same-sex marriages, too? I’m going to enjoy watching how they navigate that.

    That would compel a girl to not only having a rapist’s baby, but also marrying the rapist. We’re talking about a child here.

    Conservative women are ok with this? Really?

    Clearly the only purpose for marriage is making baby. Duh. As easy to navigate as an interstate in Wyoming.

    Just watch out for the cattle and pronghorns. (and the turkeys surrounding that gas station we stopped at between Meeteetse and Thermopolis that one time, but that a different kind of encounter.)

    I will be the first to admit that I was a lawless teen, perhaps into my mid-20s’. But even then and especially now, child marriages are disgusting. Heck, I got married at 19 and that was way too early. Especially since having girl children, those people are disgusting. And here they are fighting to not let the age be 16? A state of perverts.
