Rolling Blunder, er, Greg Abbott is determined to protect the freedom-loving libertarian paradise of Texas (America’s Lab for Bad Policy) from climate change destroying their electricity grid, er, high-powered, semi-automatic guns shooting up their public schools, er, TikTok:
“The security risks associated with the use of TikTok on devices used to conduct the important business of our state must not be underestimated or ignored,” said Gov. Abbott in a news release. “Owned by a Chinese company that employs Chinese Communist Party members, TikTok harvests significant amounts of data from a user’s device, including details about a user’s internet activity. Other prohibited technologies listed in the statewide model plan also produce a similar threat to the security of Texans.”
Because nothing says FREEDOM like telling the yokels what they can watch on their own devices. Congrats, Greg, you just lost the Yutes of Today from your 2024 Goat Rodeo coalition.

It’s weird how these caravans never seem to get here and only appear when they have run the course on other things. It’s almost like it is… bullshit?

If Rolling Thunder wants to ban TikTok on government-owned devices, fine, that’s their right (lots of companies have strict controls over company devices used by employees). Extending that ban to Texas citizens, however, is another thing entirely, and would not go well with him, because I have to think that even the Roberts iSCOTUS knows better than to significantly f**k with the 1A.
