That is Hughie Jennings, who was quite the cut-up and a pretty good manager. Pitchers found his antics somewhat distracting, to put it mildly. He passed away from meningitis, at the ripe old age of 58.

Check out Rabbit Maranville. Best defensive shortstop of his era and the guy was hilarious. There are hundreds of Maranville stories, all very funny.
