Our Failed Political Press ™ Misses Story, Again

News at 11.

A WaPo editorial this morning on the upcoming Debt Ceiling crisis (and the editorial correctly blames the Congressional Republicans for holding the country and probably the world economy hostage) ends thusly blaming BOTH SIDES:

Now, should Democrats have dealt with the debt limit while they still controlled both chambers of Congress? Yes. Absolutely. If we breach the debt ceiling in the coming months, their failure to do so could turn out to be the biggest tactical blunder of the Biden era.

Even if Democrats erred in not neutralizing this bomb when they had the chance, though, blame for any subsequent carnage should be on the maniacs lighting the fuse.

The short answer is that the Democrats tried.

The longer answer: It required a change to the filibuster to pass the Senate and neither Manchin nor Sinema budged to have a carve-out to their precious filibuster. A simple Google search showed me a dozen or so articles, including some from the WaPo. The WaPo could have looked at their own archives for themselves.

One could accurately say the Democrats failed, but then you have to believe that Manchinema speaks for all the Democrats.

The Holy Writ And Cruel Mistress of BothSides will never permit such a subtle shading.

Democrats failed… by not getting 54 seats so that they could ignore not just Manchin and Sinema, but a couple of others who were using them as beards.
