Midday Palate Cleanser

Bucky and I have similar ways of taking down the Christmas decorations.

He’s damming up the hot lava on the floor for the chilren. He’s a safety beaver.

I was puzzled by that, too, so I opened the yootoob. It’s being rehabbed by Woodside Wildlife Rescue in Mississippi. From the yootoob info:

This beaver is being raised by wildlife rehabbers after being orphaned as a newborn. Her parents were killed and their dam and lodge destroyed. Beavers are classified as nuisance animals in many US states and can be killed anytime. Beavers need to spend 2 years with their human rehabbers. They need to have lots of opportunities to practice instinctive behaviors. This beaver enjoys playing this game inside the house but lives with the other orphaned beavers outside most of the time.

Wait until it thinks the stairs and walls are aspens and cottonwoods.

A beaver as a household pet? Seriously? I have not heard of this before.

If that beaver is named Jerry Mathers, that would be almost as good as a rainbow-farting unicorn.

  6. Ran across this today https://crooksandliars.com/2023/01/ukraine-credits-beavers-defending-against

Beavers on the Ukrainian border have been unmolested during the war and have dammed up enough streams so that the border with Belarus is now a swamp (again) and thus not open to forces invading from there.

From my own reading of the article – the beaver’s name is Sawyer (cute, right?) and is being raised with two other beavers, Huck and Finn. Which is how they do it. They are considered “nuisance” animals in some places so having places like this one that can rehab is golden to the rescuers of beavers.
The Ukrainian thing is … good news. Even the beavers don’t like Putin invading. I wonder what other wildlife trots around the countryside muttering “Slava Ukraini!”
Also, the Canadian accent is from Klaatu42 – “welcome to Canada”. No beavers were harmed in the making of that video. Don’t go there if you can’t spend at least 15 minutes checking out what the animals have been saying.
