Georgia On My Mind

Fani T. Willis, the Javert-like Fulton County District Attorney in Georgia, has a decision to make now that the Grand Jury has turned in its report on Hair Füror’s (alleged) election interference:

Monday’s announcement that the grand jury had concluded and was dissolved now stirs up speculation about potential charges in the case. A source close to the Fulton County District Attorney’s office said Willis is not bound by the grand jury’s recommendations as she considers charges, which could occur even before the panel’s report is made public.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney will decide if the Grand Jury’s report will be made public January 24th, but that is more about the media having access to the report than about the contents of the report.

If Willis does seek to file charges, guess what?

Should Willis seek to file criminal charges, the district attorney would have to impanel a regular grand jury that considers criminal cases — a move that could precede any publication of the grand jury report.

Yup, a second Grand Jury.

That’s how it goes. After all that hard work, you have to flush twice.

A vestige of old Jim Crow laws.
