Republicans Release Road Rules

Last night on Mastodon, the great KagroX rooted around and found the proposed rule changes that K-Mac negotiated away. (Fair Warning – it’s a PDF.) We do not know, and maybe never will know all of the concessions he made.

Lesser importance, but maybe useful as a roadmap, Elise Stefanik has posted rules for the GOP conference.

The changes that they propose are wild, and adopting the rules will be the first item of business on Monday when they convene. There’s a field day of rat eff’ery in it.

Here’s a prime example of the eff’ery: it will now take 3 / 5 of the Congress to raise taxes. Essentially, they have legislated a filibuster (something which the House does not have) on taxes.

Republicans sure love the 3 / 5 fraction.

    Policy Statement on the Motion to Vacate the Chair

    It is the policy of the Republican Conference that the privilege under House Rule IX Clause 2(a)(3) should only be available with the agreement of the Republican Conference so as to not allow Democrats to choose the Speaker.

    So only Republicans can threaten Quevin. Quite honestly I’m kinda surprised they didn’t explicitly state that “Democrats only get 3/5ths of a vote, I mean just look at the melanin content over there!”

    26—Temporary Step Aside of a Member of Leadership who is Indicted
    (a) A member of the Republican Leadership shall step aside if indicted for a felony for which a sentence of two or more years imprisonment may be imposed. …

    So there are felonies, and then there are felonies. If less than 2 years in the hoosegow, no problemo?
