    I am still emotionally scarred by the Rankin/Bass Little Drummer Boy TV show that I last saw several decades ago: a young boy’s entire family dies in a fire and the only thing he salvages from the wreckage is a drum. He wanders around being sad until he has the chance to play his drum for baby Jesus and now everything is good.

    Sorry kid, but everything is not good. You’re going to starve to death in a ditch pretty soon.

    Not counting the wink-wink awfulness of the novelty songs…

    Little Drummer Boy, The Twelve Days of Christmas, and Wonderful Christmastime are all the very bottom of the barrel Christmas songs, he typed grinchily.
