Get the Hook!

(Axios)

The last of the traitor statues was removed from Richmond Virginia, home of the confederacy:

“This is, I would say, the last day of the Lost Cause,” Mayor Levar Stoney said as workers loaded the statue onto a flatbed trailer.

Mayor Stoner almost sounds as if he’s gonna miss the “Lost Cause.” I wonder why? Maybe he should be reminded that this particular war ended a long time ago…

Mayor Stoner almost sounds as if he’s preparing to join those trying to turn it into a won cause.

You may be reading Mayor Stoney wrong, here is a tweet from the Mayor about the statue removal:

Over two years ago, Richmond was home to more confederate statues than any city in the United States. Collectively, we have closed that chapter.

We now continue the work of being a more inclusive and welcoming place where ALL belong.

        That’s good to hear.
And it shows how important context is.

That is General A. P. Hill, in case anyone was wondering. He remarked that he didn’t want to live to see the end of the Confederacy, and a Union soldier shot him through the heart seven days before the surrender at Appomattox.

I read that it will be stored and then given to a black history museum. A fitting place for it.
