The Lame Duck Ain’t So Lame: Respect For Marriage Act Passes!

The Respect for Marriage Act just passed the Senate

The bill passed in a 61-36 vote.The bill includes a bipartisan amendment that clarifies protections for religious liberties, and will now return to the House for another vote before it can go to President Biden to sign into law.

I’m pleasantly surprised that they got 11 Republicans on board. When I find out the vote, I’ll update.

    I am a little surprised that the pig castrator herself voted ‘Aye’. Did a close relative publicly come out? That’s usually the motivation for things like that.

      I suspect she’ll be emphasizing the Religious Cake connection. We may want to keep watch on legislation she introduces that attempts to move marriage-related activities toward privatization. Like adoption – how many adoption agencies are currently religious and not directly connect to governments.

    To repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and ensure respect
    for State regulation of marriage, and for other purposes.

    Looks like an opportunity for certain parties to campaign on making the “wrong kind of marriage” illegal again at the state level.

    (a) IN GENERAL.—No person acting under color of
    24 State law may deny—

    Cue the snowflakes who demand their “free speech” right-to-say-any-stupid-thing-they want anywhere they want without regard to the actual amendment’s prohibition of governmental interference and without reaping the consequences (pause to catch breath) to apply the same logic to this. But in reverse.
