I’m considering a fairly expensive upgrade in camera equipment, so I was looking at cyber Monday deals. Naturally none of the products I want were discounted. I did find one outlet that advertised the camera I want at ‘70% off’ only to find they had marked it up 100% before deducting the 70%.

Well, that’s still a 40% savings, if they did it right. $1000 marked up 100% is $2000. 70% of $2000 is $1400, subtracted from $2000 is $600, 40% below the $1000 at the start. Maybe that’s obvious to everyone here, but some people would just subtract the 70% from the 100% and think the “discount” was a 30% increase.
