Yesterday, In History

Z is for Zodiac, a letter in Cruz’ name! Coincidence?

I’ve read that the litmus test for every Boomer is that they know exactly where they learned President Kennedy was assassinated.

I would not have guessed Ayatollah Ted Cruz has an actual sense of humor:

I think I was sitting in the living room of our rental at the time watching something else on TV, or maybe it was the funeral itself I was watching; I was 5 6 at the time. (didn’t see it in school because I didn’t go until I was 6½ as a december baby they could have enrolled me when I was 5 but parents thought that was a little young)

More than likely it was on the evening news when we were all watching; because I think I remember Oswald getting shot, too. (or maybe it’s a fictional memory from having seen that footage so many times over the last 59 years. )

I have a more distinct memory of watching the first Mercury launch because I was sitting at the kitchen table with my mom watching it; I remember being a bit disappointed because it was over so quick.

I guess I’m a bad boomer, but at least my dad didn’t kill him like Ted the Zodiac Killer’s dad did.

Wee, the family were returning from Japan, and had been passingers on a not so large Navy boat and were docking in Oakland. We had just gone ashore when we heard the news. There were grown men crying, and we ourselves shed a few tears. I had never lived inside America while Kennedy was the president. We stayed at a house owned by a relation of my father. I may have been 14, but an eerie silence hung over their neighborhood for about a week. It was as if everyone was in a deep state of shock. In retrospect, we were all in shock…

One of hubby’s JFK memories was watching his California school’s principal being dragged out of her school by a district manager because she refused to lower her school’s flag to half mast.
