    OT: What mastodon is missing is the ability to log into your federated account from any host. for example: I want to follow Dan, but I can’t just click on ‘follow’ on the link you provided, but have to go back and find my my server then laboriously search for him and follow.

    And I and still baffled that there seems to be no way to send a DM, even though there a place for me to see my DM’s.

      Once I know someone’s handle, it’s pretty easy to find them and I don’t need to know the fully qualified address. if you “search” for AT Tengrain (no spaces) on Mastodon, you’ll find me (for instance), you don’t need to know the AT mastodon DOT social part. That said, discovery is a bitch. Only other thing you can search for are hashtags.

      I have not figured out the DM stuff at all, I don’t even think I’m going to try.

      I know a lot of techies that I follow are working on extensions to Mastodon, and so at some point I’m pretty sure that there will be some new/enhanced abilities. I do not know if they will be instance-based or roll out everywhere. I suspect at some point critical mass will make some features part of the base install.
