2022: We Got Numbers

Horse Race Reporting: Comin’ round the bend…

Just now at the United States Election Project they are reporting early voting totals:

Total Early Votes: 21,689,481
• In-Person Early Votes: 8,706,909
• Mail Ballots Returned: 12,982,572
• Mail Ballots Requested: 56,237,917

I know our Failed Political Press ™ is trying to paint the election —IN 8 DAYS!!1!— as Democrats losing to Team Coup, but these numbers are showing an incredible participation rate and enthusiasm. And while this is common wisdom that Democrats vote early, the numbers when you go to the states show us that these are mostly Democrats, and mostly women. As always, the youth vote is missing. That’s not good.

The early voting numbers are clobbering the 2018 numbers (also a mid-term election, and so a fair comparison) which swept the Democrats into power in the House.

The early voting at this point in the 2020 Goat Rodeo was much higher, but that is an apples to oranges comparison.

Hubby and I early voted on Friday. I was pleased to see the number of younger than me voters in line (tbf though- that’s not hard to be younger than me.) Our wait was about 30 minutes. Was also pleased to see loads of women in line. This is GA on a Friday afternoon- around 2:00pm in a county that went for both Clinton in 2016 and Biden in 2020. It’s an area that has seen a huge demographic change in the last 10 years. So maybe all is not lost? It’s really going to come down to women NOT voting for republicans. I mean- those women who voted for TRE45ON in 2016 might be rethinking their positions now that the illegitimate SCOTUS has moved to make us all 2nd class citizens.
