‘Oops,’ Said Faceberg (Part Infinity)

As always, there is a disconnect between what Facebook/Meta says and what it actually does:

Conservatives are still obsessed with calling LGBTQ+ people “groomers,” and Facebook’s reskinned parent company Meta is still helping them do it.

Despite confirming to The Daily Dot in July that using anti-LGBTQ+ “groomer” rhetoric constituted a violation of the company’s policies against hate speech, Meta continues to allow advertisements using the slur to proliferate on its platform and is making money in the process, according to a new report from nonprofit watchdog group Media Matters for America.

A previous September report from Media Matters found more than 130 advertisements that were promoted on Facebook using the term “groomer/grooming” and other language that falsely associates LGBTQ+ people with pedophilia and child abuse. As it turns out, such ads are continuing to proliferate on the platform: new reporting from Media Matters released Thursday found that the company had allowed at least 94 such ads to remain active and approved 19 new ones since the September report was published.

It keeps happening; one might even say that this is not a bug, it’s a feature on that platform.

  1. He has monetized Radio Rwanda.

End Stage Capitalism: inciting genocide for profits. (note: Facebook field tested this stuff in Myanmar, now it’s out of beta and ready to deploy here.)
