Republicans Are Why We Cannot Have Nice Things, Part Infinity

It’s the Republicans, Stupid

Republicans Hard At Work

Above the fold at Tiger Beat on the Potomac (thanks Charlie!) morning email thingie:

SO CLOSE, YET SO FAR — Just two days before the Biden administration was planning to start issuing student loan relief, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily blocked the policy Friday. Though other courts had swatted away challenges to the policy, this one from several Republican-led states broke through with the St. Louis-based appellate panel. The hold will give the court time to review arguments and rule on the merits: Both sides have Monday and Tuesday deadlines to submit briefs. More from Michael Stratford

The stay was a GOP victory and a setback for a key administration policy, which President JOE BIDEN had just started to highlight more on the campaign trail. Earlier in the day, the administration announced that 22 million applications for relief had already poured in during the first week — about half of the expected total eligible pool — and Biden held a big event on student debt relief in Delaware.

Late Friday night, the administration responded by encouraging borrowers to continue applying. “It is also important to note that the order does not reverse the trial court’s dismissal of the case, or suggest that the case has merit,” said press secretary KARINE JEAN-PIERRE.

An administrative hold is not a decision, it is a delay. The unknown here is how long a delay it could be, and we note that the debt payment amnesty runs out in January. The White House could extend the amnesty again, if needed.

And President Handsome Joe Biden reacts:

[President Biden] took off the gloves Friday in a speech pummeling Republican lawmakers who backed massive federal subsidies for business owners, including themselves, during COVID-19 but are now complaining about his student debt forgiveness program.

“Who in the hell do they think they are?”

“I don’t want to hear it from MAGA Republicans who had hundreds of thousands of dollars of debts, even millions of dollars, in pandemic relief loans forgiven, who are now attacking me for helping working-class and middle-class Americans.”

The United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, has exactly one judge appointed by a Democratic president (Jane L. Kelly, appointed by Barack Obama, the Kenyan Usurper). Just an interesting fact.

If you have a person in your life who is suffering under crushing student debt, get them to apply for relief (as Karine Jean-Pierre says) and remind them that this roadblock is brought to us by the REPUBLICAN PARTY, who have no platform EXCEPT TO MAKE EVERYONE’s LIFE MISERABLE.

  1. Speaking of states suing. Il Deuce, Guvnor of TTSKoA, is suing the feds because they told him to get his janky white trash border wall of stacked shipping containers off their land, so now he’s suing because Teddy Roosevet did not have the authority to declare the border a federal reservation.

PHOENIX — In a lawsuit filed Friday, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey contends President Theodore Roosevelt had no legal right to simply declare all that land along the border, now known as the Roosevelt Reservation, to be the property of the federal government.

“Article II of the U.S. Constitution does not explicitly provide for the president to exercise his executive power to secure land or property without congressional approval,’’ wrote Brett Johnson, a private attorney Ducey has repeatedly hired in his legal battles with Washington. That didn’t change simply because Roosevelt declared his act to be for the benefit of “public welfare,” Johnson told U.S. District Court Deborah Fine.

“Accordingly, the Roosevelt Reservation was outside of President Roosevelt’s authority at issue, and as such is unconstitutional as a matter of law and has no force or effect,’’ the lawsuit contends. More to the point, Johnson said it “conflicts with the state’s sovereignty of that land.’’

(long quote because stupid local paper makes these online stories only available to subscribers. This is a different suit than the one filed earlier this week, referenced in the link above)

Also Il Douche did not hire this guy, the taxpayers did, because I suspect that even AG Brnovich said it was a loser.
