Flounderer Buys Floundering Social Media App, No One Knows Why

Candace Owens and Kanye West at a fashion show in Paris.

The artist formerly known as Kanye West has agreed to buy Parler, the social media app preferred by racists and Nazis:

In a statement, Ye said he’s buying the platform to ensure people with conservative opinions “have the right to freely express ourselves” online.

  • Earlier this month, Ye’s Instagram and Twitter accounts were restricted in response to antisemitic posts.

Details: In a statement, Parler’s parent company Parlement Technologies said it has entered into “an agreement in principle” to sell Parler to Ye for an undisclosed amount.

  • “The proposed acquisition will assure Parler a future role in creating an uncancelable ecosystem where all voices are welcome,” the company said in a statement.
  • Under the terms of the agreement, Parler has agreed to sell fully to Ye, but Parler will continue to receive technical support from Parlement Technologies, including access to its private cloud services and its data center infrastructure.
  • Ye has already created an account on Parler but has yet to post anything.

We would be remiss if we forgot to mention that the current owner of Parler is the husband of conservative gadfly and provocateur Candace Owens. Weird coinkydink, innit?

We should probably mention that Parler has been yanked off Apple’s App Store and Google’s Playground (or whatever they call that thing) because it is an antisemitic sewer and generally a racist cesspool. I’m not sure if it has been restored  to either store or not, but if not whatever number of users it has now (numbers are hard to find) is likely to be the maximum number of users it can have, and as those phones are replaced, well, the number decreases, so not a great investment!

Meanwhile, over at Tiger Beat on the Potomac (thanks Charlie!) we learn that Ye has called Lord Damp Nut who owns the another floundering, uh, conservative social media app, the ironically named Truth Social. We know not why they talked or why TBotP would make an article about it, so speculate wildly in the comments.

To mis-quote Robin Williams “Buying social media companies is gods way of telling you you have too damn much money.”

At least on Android, people can sideload apps that aren’t in the Play Store, and there are also alternate app stores (like F-Droid), but all of that presumes at least a modicum of technical expertise that I doubt the average TrumpCultist™ has. For iPhone users, of course, there’s no such equivalent thanks to Apple’s app store monopoly, so gosh darn it, they’re all out of gosh darn luck!

“freely express ourselves”: they misspelled “freely show their whole ass”.
