Genuine fraud, JD Vance, is going to have to cut corners somewhere as his sugar daddy billionaire Peter Thiel is cutting bait and running:

Republican megadonor Peter Thiel is signaling to allies that he is largely done helping Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance, and wants his deep-pocketed political network to boost Arizona Senate candidate Blake Masters as he trails Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly in the polls, according to people familiar with the matter…

“Peter said, ‘That race [Ohio Senate] is done in my mind,’” according to one of the people familiar with Thiel’s conversations with attendees. Vance and Ryan are vying for retiring Republican Sen. Rob Portman’s seat in Ohio, a swing state where Republicans have enjoyed increased success in recent years.

His opponent Tim Ryan is running neck-and-neck with Thiel, er, Vance if you believe the polls, which means what a great time for Thiel to cut the $.

Point of order – “cutting bait” is part of the idiom “fish or cut bait” which means do something as far as I can tell, as someone in a multiple person fishing situation has the option of being the support (cutting bait) or doing the main job (fishing).
Cut and run (cutting and running) has no bait involved. I’m not sure of the etymology, but I’ve always felt it was like “cut your losses” or maybe “cut the tethers as you can get away faster that way and get right to the running part”.
    (pause to google…)
Here we go, copy and paste

    cut and run
To sail away quickly by cutting the yarns that hold the sailsfurled.
    To hurry away; to escape.
To abandon a position as quickly as possible.

It appears the “cut” part did come from cutting rather than untying cordage…

Wait, didn’t that same guy used to wear a big bad-ass black eyepatch? Did MTG lay healing hands on the offending eye? Or did brother Matt Gaetz pluck out the beam, or mote , or whatever?
