Some Lunchtime Crazy?

Don’t call me babycakes unless you mean it.

Here’s some lunchtime crazy:

FOUR YEARS AGO in Arizona, a woman had an abortion. She was not ambivalent about the decision: She was upset to learn she was pregnant, scared of giving birth, and did not want — and she had never wanted — children. Even so, Arizona law requires a pregnant person absorb a litany of information before terminating: medical information (like the risks associated with the procedure), and legal information (like the fact that the father would be liable for child support if she carried the pregnancy to term). In Arizona, a person must sign a consent form officially acknowledging receipt of that information, then wait 24 hours before she can obtain an abortion. The woman signed her paperwork and returned the next day to pick up the pills. Six days later, she came back for a follow-up visit: The abortion was sucessful.

Two years later, that woman’s ex-husband, Mario Villegas, created an estate for the aborted embryo, and filed a lawsuit on behalf of the embryo against the doctors and clinic who provided the abortion. Villegas accuses the clinic and doctors of failing to obtain his ex-wife’s informed consent, thus committing malpractice, causing the wrongful death of his potential child and violating his “fundamental right” to parent.

And it does go on from there.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

  1. There is NO, ZERO, NADA ‘fundamental right to parent’ as much as male theocrats want to enshrine that concept into law.

For the theocrats, it only ever was about controlling women. For the politicians who have taken up the theocrats favorite forced-birth agenda- it was only ever about power. And now they are going to reap what they have sown.

Stories like this – fetal rights bullshit- serve only to remind us of what their true intent is. Keep women in their place. We are reading the horrifying stories coming out of OH- women being denied life saving cancer treatments because they are pregnant. Raped little girls being denied an abortion and having to travel for the care they need. A woman with cluster migraines being denied medication that can help her- because she MIGHT get pregnant. MIGHT.

But they have gone too far. We are so beyond pissed right now. Women are NOT incubators. We are NOT going to stand by and let these old, white, scared little men take away our rights. We’re pissed and we will be voting. I can tell you for a fact that women will not be sitting at home this go round. We are working, marching, donating, calling, texting and recruiting and we will not stop until our bodily autonomy is written into the law.

This is how they close down clinics. Along with their other intimidation techniques, suing, even though the case is likely to be dismissed, causes stress and concern, especially with those above-mentioned other intimidation techniques are ongoing. We have those same type laws in my state, and they closed down a clinic a year after that by suing, even though the suit was dismissed. It was the last straw for that clinic and its staff.

He’d be singing a different tune if she were suing for child support.

All I see is a guy that is more than a day late and a dollar short. She signed the release if I read that right so wtf? Now here he is 2 years after the fact? If he is so hot on raising kids now, he can go ahead with whomever he meets. As to the past, it seems to be over. Too bad he didn’t get all proactive before she had the procedure, but still, it was her choice in the end, and she made her decision.
