Secret Service and Vampire Restroom
Guys, what a surprise! The Secret Service erased their text messages from days around the Stupid Coup:
WASHINGTON — The Secret Service erased text messages from both Jan. 6 and the day before the attack on the Capitol after the Department of Homeland Security’s internal watchdog requested records of electronic communications tied to the insurrection, according to a letter sent to congressional committees that was obtained by NBC News.
The details about the erased messages were revealed in a letter to two congressional committees Wednesday, in which Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph Cuffari said he was informed that many of the messages from Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, 2021, had been erased “as part of a device-replacement program.”
[snip]
Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi insisted in a statement that the agency has fully cooperated with the inspector general’s review and that the text messages were lost before they were requested.
“The insinuation that the Secret Service maliciously deleted text messages following a request is false,” Guglielmi said. “In fact, the Secret Service has been fully cooperating with the OIG in every respect — whether it be interviews, documents, emails, or texts.”
Boy, they take that oath to protect the president really seriously! Even after he tried to strangle them and commander the car:
(CNN)A Washington, DC, police officer has corroborated to the House select committee investigating January 6, 2021, details regarding a heated exchange former President Donald Trump had with his Secret Service detail when he was told he could not go to the US Capitol after his rally, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN.
A spokesperson for the committee declined to comment. A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police Department did not immediately respond to comment.
So, I think someone is lying, and it looks like it’s the Secret Service.
America doesn’t need a Republican Praetorian Guard.

It’s going to take at least a generation (if we have that long) to undo the damage done by only four years of the Tangerine Traitor Maladministration.

And we’re still working on the damage from W’s years, as well. Each time they get in there, we can’t quite get the full mess cleaned up before some voters somewhere decide it’s time for another tax cut. sigh

This goes back a long long way. The Congressional successor to the Warren Commission learned about several boxes of documents the Secret Service had on credible threats to Kennedy ahead of the Dallas visit that somehow vanished, before the committee could get it’s hands on them. This is documented In Carol Leonnig’s book “Zero Fail” which is definitely shooting to the top of my reading list, based entirely on how many times she’s been interviewed about this kind of shit. https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/543941/zero-fail-by-carol-leonnig/

That bar of supposed respectability and responsibility was out the window during the Clinton years. I had an ex-gf whose college drinking buddies went on to become secret service agents only to spend most of their days ‘on the job’ in and around the WH either drunk or high. Not reassuring at all. Besides, I thought handsome joe was supposed to 86 all of fat nixon’s lackeys. What happened?

I’m a little late to this post. I got a new Chromebook and had a few problems setting it up, but I’m back. I’m thinking the Secret Service is need of a name change. The cover-up service may be available…

The Secret Service has changed a bit since my mother’s first cousin Russell “Buck” Daniel was Deputy Chief. He retired somewhere around 1960.
