GOP’s Policy on Women
Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R-did you really need to ask?) signed into law the nation’s strictest abortion ban, making Oklahoma the first state to effectively end all abortion access, in anticipation of Patron Saint of Blastocysts Sammy Alito’s ruling overturning women’s rights.
The law takes effect immediately, and prohibits nearly all abortions from the point of fertilization. You are flowers, ladies, at least in Oklahoma. Fertility Clinics are gonna be in a heap of trouble. And if they implant a dozen embryos, there better be a dozen babies or it is mass murder, amirite?
Similar to the Abortion Ban from Texas —America’s Lab for Bad Policy— the Oklahoma law will be enforced by bounty hunters, er, private citizens, who can sue abortion clinics or anyone else who helps women to get an abortion.
After Texas enacted its six-week ban, many women traveled to Oklahoma for care, and so now pretty much every woman seeking medical care is going to be under suspicion and will have to travel many more miles, possibly thousands. This will impact poor women and women of color the most, so you know, working as designed.
Isn’t it a bit early? I mean, passing this law now – that’s blatantly signing into law a measure that is still, until the SCOTUS delivers its verdict, illegal under the current laws. Isn’t it?

As if they care. Yes it will be enforced immediately and women will start dying from miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies. (it’s already happenig in Texas, women are being denied prescribed drugs for miscarriages because the same drugs cane be used to perform an abortion https://www.texastribune.org/2022/05/24/texas-abortion-law-pregnancy-care/ )
But what the hell brood mares are a dime a dozen, amiright?

Yep. But, still, party of Lawn Order blatantly violates law again.

Mexico legalized abortion so those Texass women can always go there if the need arises (it’s cheaper than most places), or they can come out west to the ocean states where it remains legal (for now). I’ve heard the Okrahoma ban doesn’t allow abortion for ectopic pregnancy which is usually a fatal condition for the mom…

Well that’s great if a) you have the money to travel and b) you have the time to do so and c) you don’t get nabbed by the
slave catchersbounty hunters in the process. You know we’re going to start seeing police-manned checkpoints on highways leading to and from states where it’s legal in states where it’s not.
Welcome to the Republic of Gilead.

Of course police will be armored up and manning those check points, grade schools have become far too scarey for them.

A lot of Oklahoma still consists of Indian tribal lands, which are exempt from some state laws. It’s been suggested that abortion clinics could still operate in those lands, if the tribes agreed. Maybe they can make a little money serving as an “abortion oasis” in the midst of the fundamentalist hellscape.

Yep – they are essentially a separate international area within the U.S. of A. We were staying with a friend on tribal land for some weeks, and one of the neighbor kids robbed a bank. The local cops couldn’t touch him as long as he stayed on tribal land. We left before we learned if anything was done, like waiting at the borders for him to go get a Domino’s pizza or something.
Also, many places don’t seem to set much store by the autonomy of tribal lands. A legal challenge on this might be far too interesting, since abortion bans are basically religious tenets taking over the state laws. Authorities refusing to budge on this issue would put us that much closer to official theocracy.

(and look at how well official theocracy has worked out in the Middle East – where the joke is that even the lamp genie can’t fix it)

I was listening to this podcast by a lawyer who breaks down why legally the tribes cannot do this, and why some tribes don’t want to. I found it informative. Hugs

The thing is, somewhere between a third and a half of fertilized eggs don’t implant in the uterus and are part of the woman’s next period. So, they’ve literally made having sex a crime
