Happy Hour News
Fifteen Eighteen dead school kids and three adults, this time in Texas.
As I said to friends in the secret bat cave:
GOP Tragedy in 4 acts: 1) You will have your rapists baby 2) we will starve it 3) Target practice 4) we’re being replaced!!1!
And this time the GOP isn’t even sending out T&P messages, thought oleaginous Ayatollah Ted is trying his webbed paws at, what? Empathy?
My friend @Jodotcom had the collage I was thinking about from Christmas and, well:
From the WaPo:
- President Biden will address the shooting tonight, a White House news release said.
- Uvalde Memorial Hospital said shortly before 3 p.m. local time that it had “received 13 children via ambulance or buses for treatment” and that two people were dead when they arrived at the hospital.
- Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) suggested that the solution to school shootings is to arm teachers. Meanwhile, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), the state where the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting happened, pleaded on the Senate floor for gun-control legislation.
- The day before the shooting, the FBI released a report saying that the number of “active shooter” attacks nationwide had risen sharply last year, doubling the number from two years earlier.
Rinse and repeat. One side wants to do something about this, the other side sees this as the price of Freedumb to have guns.
I’ve been dipping my toes it reddit, following /r/whitepeopletwitter and this was just there:

Good for you BDR, you’ll find a lol of good stuff on Reddit. On a more serious note, In Australia, a shooter, Martin Bryant, who was armed with two semi-automatic assault rifles, killed 35 and wounded another 23 on Sunday, April 28, 1996. Within two weeks, the federal and state governments of Australia had agreed to standardize gun laws with a primary aim of getting rapid-fire weapons out of public hands. The changes were met by fierce political resistance from the gun lobby. So it wasn’t easy to take away semi and automatic weapons in Australia back in 1996, but it was done because their horrified leadership insisted on changing the gun laws. Now Australia is one of the safest countries in the world. We may have a Supreme Court that would reject any sane measures to reduce firearm deaths particularly those occurring in the nation’s elementary schools, but we still have to try to make a difference. I’m still trying to understand why anyone would murder children, but the shooter was basically a kid himself with access to high powered weapons…

That was right after the Dunblane massacre in England that lead to banning private ownership of handguns in England.
Within a month after the mosque shootings in New Zealand the government had banned rapid fire large capacity rifles and collected more than 50,000 firearms from the public via a buyback. (on a population basis that would be getting rid of 350,000 weapons in the US.)
We just casually accept living with terrorism; hell, half of our political establishment insists that we MUST live with this terrorism “for freedumb”
Somehow I don’t feel all that free…

It’s kind of like the Electoral Collage, in that it acts as a multiplier for the influence of MAGAs. Everyone (the MAGAs) knows that liberals won’t touch guns, so they don’t want to lose the leverage. Also, POC and women shouldn’t own guns – except for the women who are correct in their thinking.

” Fervently lifting up in prayer “. What a crock. I hate that pseudochristian BS. What Ted and his ilk are really doing is figuring the angles. At best, how can we profit from this? At worst, how can we dodge the blame? I really hate the way they are.

The Honorable Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) has responded to the Cruz tweet:
“Just to be clear fuck you @tedcruz you fucking baby killer”
Thus it is done. This is the only way.

18 kids and 3 adults dead (and counting), but no one has answered the most important question of all: is the gun unharmed?

Exactly. The gun’s “right to life” is superior to the people, especially elementary school children, that it kills. And we can blame Scalia’s absolutist decision, among others, on the Second Amendment for this carnage. Let’s also consider that Texas has no regulations at all on the “right” to buy firearms because “freedumb, etc.” Next to the coddling of police and systemic racism. the gun cult in this country is one of its most fucked up elements. It’s one of the things that frequently (like now) makes me ashamed to be an American.

Yeah, I’m expecting to read that the gun was obtained legally, like that is supposed to fucking mean something.

I know a dude that brushes these re-occuring horrific events off with a blas`e “actors, all actors“/”false flag” while considering himself a decent person who should be (despite his deliberate block at any solution (or even discussion) held immune from any responsibility of these re-occuring nightmares … do-nothing’ers and deniers are 100% enablers and 100%complicit in these murderous situations.

Christ, and the powers that be will advise schoolchildren to wear bullet-resistant backpacks.

See through bullet-resistant backpacks, so that the 8-year olds will have a harder time smuggling a gun into school.

We had a shooting at the Nursing School here (checks google for date, holy shit 2002…twenty years ago) and they still mandate clear backpacks for nursing students.
I still remember that day clearly and I was just in the building next door; our halls were suddenly filled with freaked-out scared, crying people. Some asshole who was flunking out decided to take it out on his teachers during a final exam.

arming the teachers will, if nothing else, change the dynamic of the Teacher’s Union.

In other news, Texas pharmacists are refusing to fill prescriptions that might be used for abortion in spite of the intended usage of completing a partial miscarriage written right on the prescription because they don’t want to face liability of issuing an abortion-adjacent drug.
See, stuff can be regulated if the lege has the will to do so.
