What formula shortage?!
American parents have been struggling for weeks with a nationwide baby formula shortage (Ed Note: I really hate the phrasing baby formula, it sounds like a euphemism for making babies). The shortage was caused by an enormous recall of tainted baby formula by Abbott Nutrition (one of the two major US formula manufacturers, and really we should be talking about monopolies and the failure of capitalism that brought us to this point), and the ensuing closure of the plant responsible for the contamination. Not to be a downer here, but some babies died from the tainted stuff. Closing the plant absolutely was the right call.
The formula has been exacerbated by the Trump-Virus supply-chain kinks; getting the ingredients it seems is not easy.
The Republican Party —you know, the one that has been working the angle of bringing murder charges to women who have abortions— their plan is to starve immigrant babies at the border:
At the end of the day, you still have a starving baby, Elise.
And proving that there is nothing that Texas (America’s Lab For Bad Policy) cannot make worse, Greg Abbott comes in, guns a-blazing:
Pravda’s only US competition, Petunia and Pals as always has some agitprop (and really reading the reply tweet, I heard the late Charles Grodin’s voice at its most unctuous):
And in a nutshell that’s the Republican Party.
Meanwhile, President Handsome Joe Biden is solving the problem:
The White House unveiled a plan to ease the shortage, which may include invoking the Defense Production Act to require manufacturers to increase domestic output.
Okay. Stop, take a deep breath, then attack:
*Since when have Republicans given a flying fk about our kids and their future? Ever since Reagan, their whole plan has been to burn down the country and the world at the expense of their future. Baby formula? For forty years, they’ve said duopolies aren’t bad as long as you can’t prove consumers aren’t hurt. Well, babies are starving NOW because there are only TWO manufacturers controlling 90% of production, and the product of one of them is killing babies.
Are you not entertained? Welcome to the Republican future. It’s now.”*

To crush them, you need to stop responding directly to their focus group-polished talking points, because you’re arguing on their terms. They have always won those. And we’ll spend six months squeezing out one tiny turd like “Super-Maga”.
The only issue in this election should be what asshole monsters they are – totally unfit to even be an assistant manager at Chic-Fil-A. Anything else is playing their game.

Snopes has a nice explainer on this.
Yes there is formula at the Mexican border. It’s required by law to provide adequate food, among other things, for minors.
I did not see any mention of requiring adequate food for detained adults, but perhaps that was covered in another law suit.

I saw a take yesterday of “Why did Biden not prepare for this when he forced that recall!!!???”
Also, of note: Abbot dropped Five BILLION Dollars on stock buybacks last year from their corporate profits and tax savings.
And apparently fuck-all on plant manitenance.

That stuff is just for babies, after all, the wimmens can always make more. It’s not like it’s for fetuses.

I just came across that take as well.
I guess the babies that died from bad formula were crisis actors.

Bummer. It appears that there’s actually a benefit to having gummit regulators inspecting baby formula manufacturing facilities. Who could have possibly foreseen such an occurrence??
