RIP, Fred Ward

Fred Ward, the character actor has gone to the great casting call in the sky. Best remember for Tremors, Ward was one of those actors you saw everywhere and he always improved the material he was given. I deeply admired his talent, but more so his approach to his craft. Ward was 79, and he will be missed. .

  1. I saw his obit earlier, but it failed to mention Tremors and I couldn’t remember the movies they did mention, and so couldn’t place him.

FWIW, he was also in The Right Stuff (as Gus Grissom), Escape from Alcatraz (as one of the Anglin brothers), and the cheesy Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (alongside the future Captain Janeway herself, Kate Mulgrew).

I liked Remo Williams too, but even then I wondered why they put Joel Grey into, uh, yellowface. When I was looking at clips to use, it seemed like everything had Joel Grey and it made me really uncomfortable. So Tremors it was!

Fred Ward was in everything, and was always good.
