El Presidente for Life Ron DeSantis Declares War on Big Mouse

Floriduh dictator for life, Ron DeSantis continues his Culture War in ways that could really wallop the average Floriduh Man. From Tiger Beat:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republicans in Florida are escalating their battle with the Walt Disney Co. amid fallout over a bill that banned classroom teaching of gender identity and sexual orientation in kindergarten through third grade.

DeSantis announced on Tuesday that the GOP-controlled Legislature during this week’s special session will take up a bill that would dismantle the special district that has allowed Disney to operate its own local government in central Florida that is the home to Walt Disney World. Legislators are already scheduled to hold a three-and-a-half day special session where they will pass a new congressional map proposed by the governor that will help the GOP pick up seats in the upcoming election.

Now, as we all know, money is the root of all evil, and Ron DeSantis is all evil, so we follow the cash:

The push to punish the company comes after Disney announced it would suspend political donations in the state over the new Parental Rights in Education law. Opponents dubbed the law “Don’t Say Gay,” arguing that barring lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in early grades would marginalize LGBTQ people…

Disney is one of Florida’s biggest private employers: Last year, the company said it had more than 60,000 workers in the state. LGBTQ advocates who work for the company criticized CEO Bob Chapek for what they said was his slow response speaking out against the bill. Some walked off the job in protest.

The Disney property is huge and they have been paying for upkeep, roads, etc., and this new law if it passes will then transfer that obligation to the County/State. I saw some numbers last night on Twitter that indicated it would be something like a $2K Amero hit per tax paying resident of the county, so you got that going for you Floriduh.

Tiger Beat’s email thingie this morning:

And as the fight between Florida Gov. RON DESANTIS and Disney rages on, a large majority (75%) of voters consider themselves “fans” of Disney’s movies and TV shows, while just 31% say they have a favorable view of DeSantis. ToplinesCrosstabs

When you play chess, Ron, you best kill the king, not wound the king. This is going to backfire spectacularly.

I know Disney has a huge investment in Floriduh, but it’s a highly profitable company. I think we may see them leaving the state for a more suitable (liberal) location. Somewhere where the political climate and actual climate isn’t so damn oppressive…

I’d bet that Ron hasn’t really done the math here, but he sees the money that personally was going to him from Disney as important while any tax issues, loss of employment, and loss of income from tourists at Disney are totally beside the point since they aren’t lining his personal pocket.
It’s the “what’s in it for me today” theory.

Maybe someone should talk to Insantis about his compadre in Evil, Abbott( tx) & his Yuge trucking plan, er, fiasco.

  4. I have to imagine the MouseLaw regiments are many and highly paid. The Republican Party can only afford attorneys like Ghouliani (disbarred) and KrakenLady. DeSantis and his bigots have no idea what’s coming their way, I’d say, and unlike Imperial Stormtroopers, these guys don’t miss.

I can’t stand Disney and I loathe Republicans. This conflict is something I look forward to.

  6. Wonkette points out that removal of the district means 105 million in tax revenue disappears, and the State becomes liable for 20 billion dollars in operational costs of infrastructure. Good thing Desantis canceled all those math textbooks so math no longer applies.
