The GOP is chicken. It’s not up for debate (you’ll see what I did there in just a moment):
We are betting that Ronna ROMNEY is preemptively cancelling the debates because she knows that Hair Füror is going to be the nominee and as she knows that he is both unpleasant and very, very stupid and the Democratic nominee will mop the floor with him in any debate. He’ll just scream that he is owed 4 more years because… and be his usual truculent self.

So the Dem nominee can steal Clint Eastwood’s shtick and debate an empty chair.

You can’t debate a liar. Trump proved that. This is a pre-empive strike.
No Dem that’s not a collaborator should EVER debate a Republican liar. In any race, down to dog catcher.
