Chris Cillizza Has Competition At CNN…

…for worst reporting at CNN. It’s a little thing, but sometimes the little things are the most annoying. Why yes, this is about CNN, how could you tell?

NBC News journalists vexed by MSNBC’s move to hire White House press secretary Jen Psaki

And of course, no one at NBC is named. “Sources.”

If you’ve been paying attention, you probably already are calling BS on Oliver Darcy: MSNBC and NBC News are completely separate entities. They don’t even share a president. In fairness to Darcy, he does mention that in the body of the article.

Noah Oppenheim, the NBC News president, even held an impromptu phone call Friday so that he could address the matter with vexed staffers from the Washington bureau, some of whom have complained to their superiors that the tentative hiring tarnishes the NBC News brand.

Oppenheim, attempting to quell the anger, reaffirmed the distinction on the call between NBC News and MSNBC’s opinion programming, some of the people familiar with the matter said.

Oppenheim, who does not oversee MSNBC, told the journalists that NBC News did not have a role in hiring Psaki. And he noted to those on the phone that they work for the NBC News brand and that the hires made for MSNBC’s opinion arm should be viewed as unrelated to their work, the people said.

Also buried near the end of the article:

As was first reported by Puck, Psaki engaged in talks with several television networks, including CNN, about potential jobs she could take after exiting the White House. While she has not officially signed a contract with MSNBC, the talks with the network are in the advanced stages and the two sides essentially have a handshake deal.

So, breathless reporting about a deal CNN couldn’t close, presented as a mutiny in the ranks between a rival network and its corporate cousin. Bravo. Well done.

Seriously, Cillizza should watch out, this hot take is as bad as anything he’s ever done. Darcy is showing some talent for manufacturing controversy.

  1. I saw that headline this morning (PST) and instantly thought they (CNN) were just being extra desperate to get people to check out that new “CNN+” streaming pile of crap thing they got going -so desperate they forget that they’re supposed to be news, not gossip. Suffice to say, I did not click the bait.

So they are cool with CBS hiring Mulvaney, but NBC hiring Psaki is beyond the pale? Liberal media, my ass!

How is that worse than CNN hiring Mick Mulvaney? Darcy doesn’t have to worry. He’ll be out of a job, as soon as the merger goes through.
