Popehat has a great twitter thread on this, patiently explaining that Thomas Jackson went to great lengths to ensure that the Nazi defendants at Nuremburg had competent defense; it was a cornerstone of legitimizing the war crimes trials.
(side note…why the fuck does Twitter make it so damned hard to find a particular thread? Maybe I is dum and doing it rong)
