You’ll never guess which party Fortenberry belongs to, folks, and here’s a hint: He took money from a foreign billionaire:
LOS ANGELES (AP) — U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska was convicted Thursday on charges that he lied to federal authorities about an illegal $30,000 contribution to his campaign from a foreign billionaire at a 2016 Los Angeles fundraiser.
A federal jury in LA deliberated about two hours before finding the nine-term Republican guilty of concealing information and two counts of making false statements to authorities. Fortenberry was charged after denying to the FBI that he was aware he had received illicit funds from Gilbert Chagoury, a Nigerian billionaire of Lebanese descent.
OK, I admit that there is a Nigerian Prince joke in the making, but I avoided it and should be applauded. You’re welcome!
Anyway, the other big news on the Fortenberry front is that “despite his guilty verdict on three felony counts, Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) “does not have to give up his congressional seat.”
“Federal law requires members of Congress to give up their seats only for crimes that are tied to treason.”
Good to know.
And the Voters (R-NE) will re-elect him. Finance related crimes are a badge of honor in that cult.

Sort of, not as good as assault in reporters, vehicular manslaughter and torturing your mistress and threatening to expose her for it. No those are badges of honor for the R’s

Gonna be hard to make those floor votes from the federal clink…

His republican principles keep him from resigning, also.
