The Stupid Coup, Part Infinity

“Calling Mike Pence…”

This is astonishing and the Jan. 6 Committee needs to get it under oath NOW:

Mo Brooks says Trump asked him to ‘immediately’ remove Biden from office and illegally hold a new presidential election

Republican Rep. Mo Brooks said on Wednesday that former President Donald Trump pressed him to illegally remove President Joe Biden from office and hold a new presidential election, moves that are both unquestionably unconstitutional.

“President Trump asked me to rescind the 2020 elections, immediately remove Joe Biden from the White House, immediately put President Trump back in the White House, and hold a new special election for the presidency,” Brooks said in a statement responding to Trump withdrawing his endorsement of Brook’s US Senate campaign…

…”I’ve told President Trump the truth knowing full well that it might cause President Trump to rescind his endorsement,” Brooks said. “But I took a sworn oath to defend and protect the U.S. Constitution. I honor my oath. That is the way I am. I break my sworn oath for no man.”

It’s not the smoking gun, but it is smoking gun adjacent. Mo Brooks is an astonishingly stupid man, but he’s smart enough to know that he has nothing to lose by coming forward now and maybe some immunity to gain if he starts cooperating. The small fish flips on the big fish.

Maybe I am too cynical by half but I honestly believe the #3 thing that protects Trump, beside fame and money, is that he was smart enough to involve Congresspeople as his co-conspirators. If it had been an executive branch conspiracy alone, I could see Congress delivering some minor penalties. With Congress involved it will all ultimately be dismissed as a legal disagreement over a complex Constitutional matter that us plebs could never possibly understand. In fact, calling it a coup will be considered a rude oversimplification, like calling the legislators who voted for the invasion of Iraq warmongers.

Don’t know how stupid Representative Mo is having earned two degrees in three years at Duke University, but if he believed TFG would keep his word, then he is a least stupid adjacent (thanks TG). He’s not doing the right thing because it’s the right thing to do, he’s doing it because the walls are closing in on his fragile ass…
