It’s a great story with an ironic touch. If Ms Inman had yielded to the pressure to put Ruby down, her son would likely have perished. I’m all on board with rescue dogs. We have a rottweiler/Australian mix (we sometimes call her the rottenaussie) who is the sweetest dog, gets along well with other dogs, and loves children. A bit of a backstory here. She was caught near a school yard while begging for lunch scraps from the kids, and yes she really likes kids bearing chips. She gently takes treats when offered. Not sure how such a food deprived dog learned to be so gentle, but I’m thinking it was a vital survival skill. She been with us four years now, and is doing well…

They know when they’ve been rescued, even though they still gotta do a little of what they gotta do… 💖🐕‍🦺

Reminds me of another rescue I read of, a Norwegian Fjord Pony. She was so rambunctious that the stable that owned her nearly had her put down. Turned out she was, apparently, bored. Someone got her, trained her up a bit, and gave her a job giving rides to disabled kids. Bet that took some nerve! Anyway, once she got a job with some responsibilities she ceased to nip and troublemake.
In some circles, Aussie Shepherds have a reputation of needing a lot of entertainment (they’ll invent a game if you don’t) and possibly being telepathic.
