The Theocrats have tossed the chicken bones, said a few profane curses to their Dark Lord, and have concluded that their Magic Conjuring Words “Mah Deeply Held Religious Beliefs” allows them to put the Whammy on LGBT kids in Florida:
A new amendment to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill would require schools to inform parents of their children’s sexual orientation within six weeks of learning the student isn’t straight, NBC affiliate WFLA reported on Monday…
…The original version of the legislation required schools to inform families of their child’s LGBTQ+ status but gave an option for exemption for the outing in cases where educators feared it could lead to abuse, neglect or abandonment.
The amendment offers no such exception.
Republicans see schools as a culture war issue for them after last year’s gubernatorial race in Virginia, so they are drumming up whatever high impact, emotional issues they can. Of course, what Virginia parents were concerned about was the impact of remote learning during pandemic. Misreading the room, Republicans are going after wedge issues that riles-up their base
This will not end well. It’s not just that LGBTQ kids have a significantly higher suicide rate than their straight classmates, it’s also that the fundies will kick these kids out on the street for a life of misery and probable exploitation, as Jeebus would want.
There’s no end to the societal ills that will result.

The Floriduh House also voted to take $200,000,000 away from schools that impose mask mandates, so of course they’re against gays and transgenders, and books that are on their shit list, but they’re the very definition of stupid. I feel badly for anyone who has to live in the regressive state Floriduh except TFG. They can have him until he goes to prison…

They aren’t “misreading the room” they’re forging right ahead with the same policies they’ve always supported. They don’t care that their policies aren’t broadly popular…that doesn’t matter. They choose their voters and their voters desperately want to start killing the
HutusLibtards.To their point of view gays are untermenschen and deserve to die; these kids are disposable undesirables.
But we’re supposed to “find common ground” and “reach a compromise” with them or we’re terribly divisive and partisan.
As always the operative policy is always the Goldfinger paradigm:

Let’s turn this around for good? How about we publish a close-up photo of all the racists in Florida? Publish it on all the local news. I for one despise racists. They need outing, not some poor school kid.
