Happy Hour News

Guys, for the first time EVER, a gun maker was held accountable for one of their products used in a mass killing:

The families of some of the adults and children killed in the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School reached a $73 million settlement Tuesday with Remington, the manufacturer of the AR-15 rifle used in the massacre.

The settlement agreement also allows the families to make public thousands of pages of “internal company documents that prove Remington’s wrongdoing,” attorneys for the plaintiffs said in a press release.

“This victory should serve as a wake up call not only to the gun industry, but also the insurance and banking companies that prop it up,” said the families’ attorney, Josh Koskoff, in the release.

None of that money will ever bring back those kids, BUT it might save some other kids in the future if the gun manufacturers start getting scared of lawsuits. Sue then into oblivion, and in the meanwhile, pressure your representatives in Congress. This is an inflection point.

  1. Remington is bankrupt. This is a pyrrhic victory at best

Not necessarily. They got lots of information through discovery. Besides, money wasn’t the issue.

Yeah. Some of those ‘internal memos’ from their morally bankrupt and incompetent executives that hopefully will see the light of day on either billboards and/or full page magazine ads are tone-deaf at best and graphically repugnant at worst. What pigs.4

The potential ripple effect on other gun manufacturers has to be a good thing.
