He’s Baaa-ack! (Joe Manchin, Part Infinity)

Joe Manchin: “It’s all about me, Me, ME!”

Why, oh Lord, why are we doing this again? Der Tiger Beat auf dem Potomac (thanks Charlie with an assist from MPS Patron Saint Watertiger) morning email thingie breathlessly tells us:

BBB COMPLICATIONS — Democrats hoping to revive BBB talks are coming to terms with the fact that this may take a while. Last week, the Congressional Progressive Caucus called on the party to pass the bill by the SOTU — a deadline White House press secretary JEN PSAKI and Pelosi both dismissed.

Progressives aren’t alone in trying to up the urgency. This morning, a group of 250 left-leaning business leaders and nonprofit groups will call on the Senate to get moving on BBB, according to a copy of the letter shared with Playbook that will run as an ad in the NYT. But as we reported last week, senior Democrats have no idea what they can get Sen. JOE MANCHIN (D-W.Va.) to agree to and how long it will take. Because of that, Democratic leaders are loath to set another deadline.

Even if BBB talks commence soon, there are complications afoot: Sarah caught up with PRAMILA JAYAPAL (D-Wash.) about BBB on Friday, and while the Progressive Caucus leader did indicate that her members would swallow a smaller version of the bill than they want, she also insisted that Manchin is on board withthe framework the party agreed to in October. “I believe that, even from his conversation with me after he went on Fox News [to announce he was a ‘no’], that those are still the things that he supports,” she said.

Jayapal is my Representative, and while I do not know her, I’ve met her. She’s no dummy and she is a straight shooter. If she says that she believes it, I believe her. The person I do NOT believe is Joe Manchin.

MORE ON BBB: WSJ’s Andrew Duehren nicely captures the near-total leverage that Manchin now has over his progressive colleagues, who are desperate to get him back to the bargaining table. “Manchin should have the pen, we should respect that whatever he wants to do will be reasonable and ultimately be historic,” Rep. RO KHANNA (D-Calif.) told Duehren.

Oh should we?

Not that the powers that be would ever listen to me, heavens forbid. But just for shits and giggles let’s make Manchin a poster boy for voting against the party. I’m no artist but I am certain that ridiculous cartoons of the man, as well as derogatory nicknames, and even plentiful memes can come from his traitorous acts,
Since we can’t change his mind, let’s humiliate the son of a bitch. He’s no Democrat and he retains too much respect as a traitor.
    My 2 cents anyway.

tengrain, for sure I also like Rep. Jayapal, but …. isn’t this just her version of “you can’t shit-talk your counterparty until after the contract is signed” ? That is to say, her words are for one set of ears, and nobody else ? I personally think she knows the game is up for BBBA, and she’s just doing this b/c hey, you never know, something might change and push Mansion back to decency.

Has anyone asked him how many bridges need to collapse before he’s ready to work with his own damn party?
