      Yeah, like Gitler (Russian phonetic spelling, trust me, I know) just wanted to ensure that those Volksdeutsche in the Sudetenland weren’t persecuted by those awful Czechs and Slovaks. (It just blows my mind that this fascist propaganda infests our media. The Murdochs are monsters.)

        Looked for the Fry and Laurie bit on “if Rupert Murdoch had never been born” but the BBC has blocked it on “copyright grounds”. Suddenly, I am feeling more concern for Britain’s political health.

        @MDavis. Boris is definitely into authoritarianism. I’ve read some articles about his agenda and legislative agenda and it is sobering as hell.

      Don’t you realize that corporate kleptocracy and authoritarian rule are what passes for normal among “conservatives” these days? E.g., “Russia is our friend.” This goes back to 2017, but just imagine what our reaction would be if TFG were still in the WH.

        Goes back further…all sorts of Heritage Foundation and AEI and Cato folks swarmed into the former USSR when it all broke up, “advising” all the nascent oligarchs on the benefits of capitalism, GOP-style. (never mind almost all of them were former Party poobahs, I guess former communists were just fine so long as the rebels were flowing)

        Helped them carve up all the assets of the country into the oligarch’s pockets, along with hefty ‘consulting fees’. The modern Russian gangster state can be laid at their feet as much as the oligarchs.

    Republicans forgot how to govern many moons ago. It stands to reason that they no longer understand the meaning of and/or the purpose of treaties. (They’re looking at you NATO.) They’ve regressed back to the days when American Treaties (especially ones with Native Americans) weren’t worth the paper they’re written on.
