Happy Hour News

“Noooooooo!”

A very bad day for Hair Füror. It began with…

and then:

Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows provided the House select committee investigating the January 6 riot with text messages and emails that show he was “exchanging with a wide range of individuals while the attack was underway.

“These communications offer a window into what people were texting to Meadows on January 6, what he was telling them about Trump in real time, and what the former President was doing for those hours while the Capitol was under attack.”

A source familiar with the communications says the texts “may not reflect well” on Trump.

…and concludes thusly:

A federal appeals court on Thursday resoundingly rejected former president Donald Trump’s bid to keep his White House documents secret from a congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, setting up an emergency Supreme Court review.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit unanimouslyupheld a lower court’s opinion, which said that in a dispute between a current and past president over whether to release White House records, the sitting president must prevail.

So any wiggle room, you ask?

“Lives were lost, blood was shed; portions of the Capitol building were badly damaged; and the lives of members of the House and Senate, as well as aides, staffers, and others who were working in the building, were endangered,” the court said of the riots that stalled Congress’s confirmation of the 2020 election results, adding, “There is a direct linkage between the former President and the events of the day.”

I’d say that’s a sold, “NO.”

Yeah, I have my quatloos that Roberts (and either Gorsuch or Kavanaugh – but not both!) cross the aisle. I think that Thomas, Alito and Coathangers will stay put. so 5-4, just not sure of the make-up of it.

Side bet: Alito will have another of his patented hissyfits.

A monster in black robes. Fun facts: when I was a corporate general counsel in NJ in my prior life, I worked closely with his sister on a number of high-profile employment cases. (After I left, I was even deposed by her in an even more high profile employment lausuit that the Company lost in a landmark NJ Supreme Court Case — thank heavens I was gone by then!!) Also while at the Company, one of my co-workers and fellow executives was none other than James Comey’s father! So, I guess you could say that I’m one degree of separation removed from two infamous New Jerseyans.

I think the Supreme Court’s credibility is at a “Son of Dogshit” level now — a nice turn of phrase I learned from the Paul Thoreau novel “Saint Jack” but if is rolls over for TFG, it will sink even lower in the shit — assuming that’s possible, and with the GQP it’s always possible.

In the “Executive Privilege” case, did Trump argue that Biden couldn’t waive executive privilege because Trump actually is the President?

    • I dunno, but a judge has ruled that Trump Executive orders overrule Biden Executive orders, so the Remain in Mexico policy had to be re-instated.

As always, Democratic Presidents are inherently illegitimate in their eyes, and now the judiciary is riddled with judges who believe the same thing.
