GOP: When Bad Outcomes Are Policy Goals

Socializm fer anti-vaxxers! (Axios, so all the usual caveats about formatting apply)

Republican officials around the country are testing a creative mechanism to build loyalty with unvaccinated Americans while undermining Biden administration mandates: unemployment benefits.

Driving the news: Florida, Iowa, Kansas and Tennessee have changed their unemployment insurance rules to allow workers who are fired or quit over vaccine mandates to receive benefits.

The big picture: Extending unemployment benefits to the unvaccinated is just the latest in a series of proposals aligning the GOP with people who won’t get a COVID shot.

  • Republicans see a prime opportunity to rally their base ahead of the midterms. No matter how successful their individual efforts, the campaign is a powerful messaging weapon.

I’m old enough to remember when Republicans and their owners we’re claiming that unemployment benefits were too generous and keeping the proles from returning to the low-wage  treadmill. Now, they are not only prolonging a public health emergency, they are paying scofflaws to do it, and to not to return to work.

  1. Y’know, honestly, I’d gladly pay more taxes to keep the plague rats away from me.

Of course, the smart thing to do is to get vaccinated and then tell the unemployment office that you didn’t and that’s why you’re unemployed. Then get on your motorcycle and head south.

ROFL. Damn the optics, full speed ahead. Next, I suppose will be free health care for the unemployed and unvaccinated.

So, Socialism For Dummies. Not a book containing a simplified explanation of socialism and how it works, but actual socialism for actual dummies. People too dumb to get an easily accessible vaccine and too dumb to realize that they’re now socialists.
