I love both dogs and cats. But the old saying is true- dogs have masters, cats have staff.

If you don’t see the esthetic appeal that BBBB mentions, then the only remark that covers that is good ol’ de gustibus non est disputandum ( “no accounting for taste”) — but to me the interest and pleasure in interacting with a being, a mentality. so thoroughly different from myself who nonetheless chooses to engage in a personal relationship with me, is also a big part of it.
