About Last Night…

(H/T: Twitter)

And that is exactly what happened. The House of Representatives passed the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, 228 to 206.There were 13 Yeas from Republicans, too!

I get what Pelosi is doing (guarding her majority from accusations of being a do-nothing Congress and girding for the 2022 Pie Fight) and why (Manchinema effectively running the Senate blockade with 50 Republicans), and so in essence is giving up on Chuck Schumer to deal with them. I’m not mad at Pelosi (but boy-howdy, she’s being dragged on Twitter) or at anyone other than the 52 members of the Senate blocking a bill that would help pretty much everyone.

Nancy Pelosi is the most effective Speaker of the House probably in US History, and certainly in my lifetime.

And now with the Congressional Political Caucus’ leverage gone, everything is in Manchinema’s hands, where they can smother it in its sleep.

UPDATE 1: Pelosi is a total boss:

Still, the passage of this bill is a huge step forward for wee the people. I’m hoping that when rebuilding infrastructure has gone from proposal to actual reality that it will generate widespread support for more governmental aid, even amongst those who don’t like Biden, but want America to succeed…

This makes two huge bills passed (the ARP in March being the first) with razor-thin majorities in both houses and two senators on our own side playing asshole games. It’s nothing short of a miracle.

Pelosi gets shit done, again and again, under the toughest conditions. None of her Twitter critics could accomplish a hundredth as much if they were in her position.

If we get something passed now that will actually help people, however far short it falls of our full wish list, that will maximize our chances of holding the House and picking up another two Senate seats in 2022 — after which the Manchin/Sinema veto will be gone and we can revisit what we couldn’t do this year. If Congress had gone on bickering and failed to pass anything at all, that would set the stage for the Republicans to take both majorities, at which point we could kiss everything goodbye.

I’m going out on a limb here and guess that Ron Filipkowski does not work for CNN.

I know she doesn’t want it. I know it will never happen.

But seriously, can she be my President?

Speaker Pelosi: cutting deals, cutting heads, and, when necessary, cutting nuts.
