Playing Chicken with a Turkey

Steve Bannon’s legendary animal attractiveness on display

As predicted/sworn, pardoned felon Steve Bannon did not appear before Congress’ January 6 Insurrection Committee and also as predicted/sworn, they are moving ahead with citing him in Contempt with Congress. On Tuesday next week Congress will vote (along party lines, no doubt) to refer the matter to the Department of Justice, where we predict it will stay, what with having no confidence at all in our ineffective and feckless Attorney General Merrick Garland.

On the one hand, Garland does not have an appetite for holding the Trump administration accountable for misconduct. On the other hand, if he lets Bannon off the hook for defying a congressional subpoena, Garland would essentially be capitulating that the fascist front runner of the GOP is above the law and that Republicans can continue to pillage democracy at will.

I think that is the state of play this morning.

The current state of Justice in this country is nauseating. I really had thought law would return under President Biden, but I see little evidence of that.
